Narcotics other than alcohol (e.g., marijuana and heroine) are involved in about 18 percent of car deaths. These other drugs are oftentimes used in combination with alcohol. Two thirds of child passengers younger than fourteen who were killed in dui motor vehicle crashes from the years 1997 to 2002 were in the car with the inebriated driver; a mere 32 percent of the kid passengers were properly restrained as the crash occurred.
